Vélib

You might think that two transplanted Californians who wake up one morning with no cars would be facing some serious withdrawal symptoms. But it hasn't really been a big deal for us. We've been without a car since we moved to Paris 11 weeks ago. The Métro is one reason for that ... lots of walking too. Another reason is Vélib. That's a public bike system in Paris. There are stations all around the city and you can rent a bike for a few euros a day. We took a major bike tour around Paris this afternoon and I have the photos to prove it ...

OMG, it was SO MUCH FUN! we first tried it last night and loved it so much we had to do it again today (and share the joy with junior). i felt so urban-european and adventurous! Paris is very bike friendly with many bike lanes and a seemingly high vehicular awareness. one place where the bike path had to go down a flight of stairs a narrow ramp is provided so you can wheel your bike down! so cool.

So Junior was in the basket the whole time? What a hoot. How did he like the ride?

It sounds like a great way to enjoy your new city and work off a few croissants!

that is one of the best parts of copenhagen too! i loved that they actually encourage biking in the city as a way of transport.

Junior seemed to like it. With the Parisian wind blowing in his fur, he was much less irritable than usual. Translation: he didn't try to bite me even once.

Pretty sure that we'll have to do this when I come visit. =)
