Gare du Nord was home base for me when I was in Paris. I stayed across the street from there.
First day, walking out of the station, I was hit up by a Bosnian woman who complained when I didn't give her my last euro. I mean, she bitched at me hard core when she saw I didn't give her every coin I had in my pocket. Damn.
Speaking of former citizens of the former republic of Yugoslavia, did anyone see the photos of Radovan Karadzic -- the Butcher of the Balkans -- in the NY Times after his capture in Belgrade the other day.
I think the Gare du Nord is where we landed after taking the hovercraft across from Dover to Calais. We spent a few nights in a hostel on the Rue de Sharon. 1981...
